            Chinese Classical Dancing 

             

             

            What is Chinese Classical Dancing?

             

            • Chinese Classical Dancing originated in ancient China, stretching back more than 3000 years in history. It is the epitome of all forms of traditional Chinese culture, incorporating the essence from martial arts, Chinese opera, calligraphy, and localised ethnic culture. Strength and softness are intertwined in the techniques of dancing, highlighting traditional oriental beauty.

             

            • There are many different ethnical styles of Chinese Classical Dancing, exemplified by Tibetan, Xinjiang Uyghur, and Mongolian styles. This is an excellent opportunity to get to know various regional ethnical customs. 

             

            Why learn Chinese Classical Dancing?

             

            • Chinese classical dancing is very different from Ballet, which stringently requires a learner to have long limbs, thin neck, straight legs, high instep and good flexibility. The goal of Chinese classical dancing is to improve and perfect one’s physique, which is especially beneficial to children. The nature of the movements of Chinese classical dancing minimises the possibility of illness, such as hunchback.

             

            • Movement Coordination: dancing requires one have coordinated movements of different parts of the body. The training to move according to the music significantly develops one’s response to rhythms.

             

            • Flexibility: through constant training of legs splits and waist bending, one can develop high flexibility, resulting in smoother and more elegant body movements.

             

            • Chinese classical dancing consists of body rhythm, body posture, and techniques. The gracefulness and charm of performing is the essence of Chinese classical dancing, and is often expressed in the most subtle details, such as the way to breathe while dancing.

             

            • By learning different ethnical styles of Chinese Classical Dancing, students will understand and learn fun knowledge about various local customs including different dressing, working, living styles and even famous legacy story of different ethnical group to enrich their learning process.

             

            • Team spirit and corporation: apart from solo performance, there is also double and group dancing, which requires students to cooperate well in a team. As such, the discipline and ability to play well in a team would be very well developed.

             

            • Confidence building: performing Chinese classical dancing not only tests one’s skills, but significantly develops one’s confidence in facing the audience and completing a dancing sequence.

             

            • Dancing is an enervating activity. The optimal amount of Classical Chinese dancing increases one’s appetite, help with digestion, increase immunity and decrease the likelihood of getting sick.

             

            What will you learn?

             

            • Our lessons are designed to be the most complete and systematic, and will cater to every single student. We will make sure that students understand, and are able to incorporate body rhythm, body posture, and techniques into their dancing.

             

            • Ethnical dancing lessons will each students the skills in representative styles, such as peacock dancing, Zang dancing, Mongolian dancing, and their combinations.

             

            • The use of auxiliary dancing items, such as fans, handkerchiefs, ‘water-sleeves’, and ‘flower-umbrellas’ will be taught as well. These items highlight the uniqueness to Chinese classical dancing.

             

            • During the learning process, we will also focus on the training of basic skills and flexibility.

             

            • As learning progresses, we will tell interesting accounts of the cultural history of China, so that students would be more greatly appreciate and comprehend the art of Chinese classical dancing.

             

            What will you achieve and what can we offer the best help?

             

            • Upon the completion of each term, each student will receive their certification of achievement.

             

            • A performance show will be held at the end of each term, and the best performers will be given prizes accordingly.

             

            • After the first term, basic techniques and the ability to perform a complete dance sequence will be developed.

             

            • Our teaching is student-centred. Progress will be assessed each term and the teaching approach and contents will be modified such that students will get the most out of our lessons.

              * 1. Early-bird price of £180, registering 2 weeks prior to the start of each term.

                 2. Faculty members from University of Oxford and all students hold a valid student card enjoys a further concession rate.

                 3. £15/hour for step-in without registration, but requires booking in advance for the space. Please email admin@cbac-arts .org for booking your space.
