Introduction to the history and development of Guzheng, why it is regarded as "the father of all Chinese instrument", its basic playing techniques, genre of music, etc.
Our Guzheng teacher will demonstrate various famous pieces that showcase the performance of Guzheng, and will explain the significance of each piece and the stories behind them.
You will get to learn the professional techniques of Guzheng playing, including body posture, string plucking and pressing. Once you learn the secret nuances, you will find yourself playing the Guzheng just like an expert!
Background and history: you will get to learn the knowledge of systematic examination of the art of Chinese calligraphy development, and you will also be able to appreciate the historical significance of penmanship artworks used in our centre.
Getting hands-on: recognise and professionally use the "four treasures" of calligraphy.
Writing: you will learn the secret techniques of writing basic strokes with a professional brush, and put them together to construct simple characters.
Producing your first work: at the end of the workshop, you will be able to produce a very simple piece of calligraphy work, which you can take home and decorate your room, or show your friends and family!
CHINESE CLASSIC DANCING WORKSHOP
China contains 56 ethnical groups, each of which possesses their own unique culture and mode of art expression. As such, traditional Chinese dancing encompasses various styles that represent the philosophy of these ethnical groups. We will first introduce to you the unique culture and history of the most influential ethnical groups, such as Zang, Meng, and Dai, and hence explain how their distinct dancing styles were developed accordingly.
Our dancing teacher will demonstrate these most prominent styles of dancing to you, such that you can further understand and appreciate the dancing aspect of the unique Chinese ethnical cultures.
During the workshop session, we will also teach the basic skills and tricks for dancing, and ensure that you can perform these fundamental moves correctly and independently. At this exciting stage, you will be able to truly feel how the ethnical cultural uniqueness is encapsulated in dancing!
In the end, you will be able to perform a few short dancing pieces. Remember to show your new trade to your friends and family! More importantly, you will have learned the multifaceted Chinese ethnical history and culture in the process of dancing and having fun.
CHINESE INK PAINTING WORKSHOP
Our leading tutor (Dr Weiming He - the artist-in-residence for Oxford University Estates Directorate) will demonstrate some of his art work during the workshop.
Dr Weiming He will demontrate the basic techniques of Chinese painting, and you will have the chance to have a real feel by the use of brushes and ink, colouring, and also painting on silk.
Apart from the general introduction and overall experience, the workshop will also focus on demonstrating the simplest painting style, Gongbi style. This allows you to appreciate and grasp the essence of Gongbi style, get some real skills while having fun!
CHINESE LANGUAGE (MANDARIN) WORKSHOP
We will introduce the system of Chinese language(Mandarin), including how the character works, how the pinyin works in Chinese, etc. Our language teaching will emphasize on practical language communication. Have a taste of Chinese language by yourself.
After the workshop, you will have a basic idea about what you will expect if you would like to learn Chinese. Come and join this free language taster workshop, it will give you a great chance to know about Mandarin and then decide whether you would like to go ahead.
You probably will be able to speak a bit Chinese at the end of our workshop. Like how to introduce yourself in Chinese (Mandarin), hello & goodbye language for greetings, etc.

Sino-British College Concert - West Meets East
CBAC successfully held the Sino-British Concert, together with Oxford Youth Acadamy in Wolfson College of University of Oxford in February 2015. The concert nicely combined the culture and arts of two countries. Not only it had traditional musical instrument performance from both countries and famous British opera singing, but also the combining performance such as Chinese singer sang to the accompaniment of western instruments ukelulu.
During the after-party, audiences also experienced other traditional Chinese art forms, calligraphy and brush painting, with talented art students.
Voyage of Chinese Cultural & Arts Immersion Festival
Voyage of Chinese Culture and Arts Immersion is a series of events theme running on every Saturday evening from 16th of May to 20th of June. There are 5 stops in this journey, each stop represents one of the China culture and arts form, to help you have more understanding about China in different aspects of culture and arts. These five stops are:

Chinese Speaking Corner 中文口语角
This was a regular social event for you to practice your Chinese speaking and listening in a relaxant environment.
Each week we had a topic for you to talk about and discuss, but only in Chinese! We also played games to help you practice your Chinese. Here we welcome everyone with all different backgrounds and levels. Beginners could ask for help from our Chinese teachers if you have difficulties in describing something. For those who have already possessed certain levels of speaking skills, could challenge themselves to talk with other local Chinese friends. This was a great opportunity for you to meet and socialise with other people who are also interested in either Chinese language or Chinese culture and arts, and also this will be a great help for you to practice your Chinese!

China Britain Cultural Dialogue - 中英文化高端对话
2015 is the “Culture Exchange Year Between China and Britain”. Chinese culture has been playing an important role in the splendid world culture today, and is also influenced by the western culture as a result of communication and media.
Against that background, we are delighted to host a high level dialogue between scholars from China and UK. Each panelist speaker will speak for approx. 10-15 minutes, followed by a 30 min discussion and questions in both sections.
The well-established Looking China Film Project has invited 200 international students who never visited China before to explore Chinese destinations and shoot short films about Chinese Culture since 2011. We will launch the looking China Project in UK by screening 5 short films selected from 100 pieces produced in 2015.

2015 - 16 Michaelmas Term Certification Awarding Ceremony
At the end of the 2015-16 Michaelmas term, CBAC held a certification awrding ceremony to those who have succefully achieved the great results in each of their course. Students who had had outstanding results also gave showcases / performance and work exhibitions during the ceremony.

The mix & mingle Christmas party is for people who have similar minds and interests to know each other, and make friends.
